SUAREZ EXTENDS BARCELONA STAY

Barcelona talisman Luis Suarez has agreed to extend his contract with the club.

The agreement will keep him at the Camp Nou until June 2021, the Spanish champions announced on Thursday. The Uruguay striker’s new deal features a release clause worth a staggering €200 million (US$208 million).

The Catalan giant said Suarez, who has netted 97 goals in 116 matches since his arrival from Liverpool in 2014, would officially sign the new deal today.

Suarez said, “They know that I feel happy here and there was never going to be a problem extending my contract, and finally, it’s official.”

The former Liverpool and Ajax striker Suarez helped Barcelona win a treble of Copa del Rey, La Liga and Champions League in his first season at the Camp Nou and extended his laurel with a domestic double last season. The 29-year-old prolific striker netted in the 3-1 victory over Juventus in Berlin in the 2015 Champions League final as they lifted the title.

Suarez’s incredible goal tally of 59 goals in 53 appearances last season, which includes 40 goals in La Liga, won him the European Golden Boot award for Europe’s top scorer. Read more “SUAREZ EXTENDS BARCELONA STAY”

Lionel Messi ran through Manchester City’s defence

On October 19 of the ongoing year, Barcelona hosted Manchester City in a group stage Champions League match which concluded in a 4-0 triumph for the Spanish club with Lionel Messi scoring a hat-trick and Neymar marking his name on the score-sheet in the last few minutes of the match.

Even though the final scoreboard displayed 4-0 in favor of Barcelona, the actual match was much more disputed as possession was split between 53% and 47% with the Spanish side having the slight upper hand and the rest of the statistics also showed that Barcelona had the advantage as well but only by a small margin.

The factor that did make the difference was Lionel Messi as the Argentine player was just reckless when he ran upfront and was a headache to the defenders of Manchester City. There was no doubt whatsoever that he was the man of the match as he scored 3 goals and Neymar scored his late goal thanks to a penalty kick after Messi had been brought down with a foul and instead of taking the set-piece, the Argentine attacker decided to allow his teammate Neymar to take the shot. BARCELONA GET NEW STRIKER

Barcelona are reported to have added a new striker to the ranks this summer as they continue to maintain their dominance in the La Liga.

Barcelona have been linked to many forwards this summer, including former Bayern striker Mario Gomez. The club is sett o announce the deal officially, after the buy just before the deadline in the coming mid-week. The player – Paco Alcacer – was acquired from Valencia for a reported €30 million, with €2 million in performance bonuses.

Reports say he would be presented to fans early next week, with the deal likely going through since he didn’t feature in the game against Eibar on Saturday. His coach Paco Ayestaran said: “He wasn’t in ideal condition to compete. We’ll see what happens in the next few days, you all know the news and it’s tough. To give it your best you need to have your body and soul here.”

The arrival of Alcacer means Munir El-Haddadi might have to leave Barcelona on loan. A likely move to Celta Vigo is set but Valencia are in talks with the talented player to serve as Alcacer’s replacement. The Blaugrana want the new striker to serve as rest and an option to Luis Suarez. With many games to compete for domestically, continentally and otherwise, Suarez would definitely help to get through. Barcelona continued their dominance in the La Liga with a 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao, earning them maximum points from the La Liga so far.

FORMER BARCELONA PLAYER SAYS MADRID PLAYED LIKE A SMALL TEAM

Barcelona legend, Xavi Hernandez, says his former rival club in Spain, Real Madrid, played “like a small team” in the El Classico against his former club.

The Spanish giant, Madrid defeated Barcelona by 2-1 in a keenly contested match as it was crucial to the La Liga title.

Madrid head coach, Zinedine Zidane, opted for a cautious approach as they came from behind to beat their arch-rivals at Camp Nou. The victory is one that helped reignite the La Liga title race and has made the title race one that will end in the final minutes of the season. With two games left this season, Madrid are in third place with 84 points, Atletico and Barcelona are a point ahead but the Catalan giant are atop due to goals’ difference.

However, Xavi believes that style – along with the tactics of Atletico Madrid – would not be accepted at Barca. He told beIN SPORTS:

“Real Madrid played like a small team in the Clasico at Camp Nou.

“A big team like Barcelona should not be playing like Atletico Madrid. Big teams like Barcelona and Madrid should always stick to their own style. You cannot start playing like Atletico. Read more “FORMER BARCELONA PLAYER SAYS MADRID PLAYED LIKE A SMALL TEAM”
