The Barcelona team achieved in numerous records in the five years spent under their former captain. One of those records was 11 successive victories in all competitions. The current Barcelona team, under Luis Enrique, have equalise this record after managing to win all their matches since the 1-0 defeat against Real Sociedad at the start of January. Manager Luis Enrique, though, is keen to keep his feet on the ground as he says that these records mean nothing if the club does not win any titles this campaign. It was a forgettable last season after the team failed to win any major honour under the stewardship of Gerardo Martino. This particularly places a lot of pressure on Enrique. A major reason towards this impeccable form has been superstar Lionel Messi, who has been going from strength to strength in this period. Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez sealed Victory for Barcelona

Goals from Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez sealed the victory of Barcelona when they played against PSG in their last match of the group stages of the Champions League.

Surprisingly enough, it was PSG that took the lead at the 15th minute with an early goal from ZlatanIbrahimovic but the advantage did not last long as Messi equalized moments later and from there on out it was Barcelona that controlled the match and secured the triumph that allowed the Spanish club on climbing to the top spot of Group F with 15 points.

Barcelona will be taking on Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League last 16 stage of the season. It is already one of the most awaited fixtures, as the latter have been doing extremely well in the Premier league under the guidance of Manuel Pellegrini. Even though they have not entered into the stage of the Champions League in their history, Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino has said that he respects the Premier league outfit hugely. City have spent in excess of £ 700 million in improving the squad over the last few years.

Martino says that his team will not be taking City lightly since they have the capability to hurt any team in the world. “For the last six seasons Barcelona have made it to the semis and the fans are used to it. It will be difficult to understand if we don’t go through but it is the tightest tie of all. I don’t think City are a mini-Barcelona or a mini-any-team. I think they are one of the greatest teams in the world. Barcelona suffered their first home defeat since April 2012 after a 3-2 loss at the hands of Valencia. This was despite the home team taking the lead very early on in the match. Their main title rivals Real Madrid won their match this weekend in style after a 5-1 thrashing of Real Sociedad. This has put a little pressure on Barcelona to take three points. Lionel Messi is also under pressure to score his first goal in the league after a long time. The Argentine superstar has not scored in the last four league matches. Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino has revealed that this will not be an easy match for them.

Even though Real Betis are bottom of the table, he expects the home team to put a strong fight in the match. The home team have won just two matches all season long and are rooted to the bottom of the table. Martino has confirmed that two main players – Gerard Pique and Sergio Busquets – will not be involved for Barcelona. Pique has been left home, while Busquets will be left out of this match in order to rest him. These absences may mean that former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song may get an opportunity to impress in the middle of the park.

The Cameroon international has seen very little first-team action since moving to Barcelona.

“I expect Betis to come out for us, especially playing at home. They have some great players, and although their league results haven’t been too good, they’re doing well in Europe.
